My friend plays paintball and he showed me a ton of videos and gear that he had used to paintball. It seems like something I could easily get in to but I have no idea how to get started. I want to start off as cheap as possible. Any tips could help!

Best reply by Difdi:

Best advice is to find a paintball field that offers gear rentals, and rent gear the first few times you play. If you decide you don’t like it after all, you won’t lose any money this way.

Once you do decide to buy gear, you should buy a new, cheap gun package. A basic, entry-level package can be had for $100-$200 depending on exactly what you get. Minimally, you need a barrel cover, the gun itself, a loader/hopper, a gas tank (either CO2 or compressed air) goggles/mask and paintballs. Buying each individually, you could expect to pay $4 for the barrel cover (safety device), $50-$100 for the gun, $10-$20 for the loader, $15-$40 for a CO2 tank or $50-$200 for compressed air, $20-$100 for the goggles/mask and $20-$50 for a case of paintballs.

CO2 tanks are cheaper and give more shots for the same size/weight of tank than compressed air. They both cost about the same to refill (most fields can do so), about $3-$5. Disposable CO2 tanks exist, and are cheaper than refillables, but they’re not cost-effective in the long run. CO2 has a drawback in that in cold weather, it can suffer performance problems (it has to expand when it leaves the tank to properly power the gun, expansion rates are temperature-sensitive).

The goggles for paintball are specially made and heavily armored. Most other types of goggles (ski goggles for example, or workshop goggles) are NOT adequate for paintball. They will shatter when a paintball hits them, causing eye damage that is worse than no goggles at all. Make sure to buy a thermal lens, fogging goggles are a pain in the ass. The goggle lens must be replaced yearly, or sooner if it ever gets hit by a paintball; Yeah, the goggle lens might still be good after taking a hit, but remember what it’s there for, and don’t take stupid chances with being blind for the rest of your life.

A pump-action paintball gun has a lower rate of fire than a semi-automatic, but gets more shots per tank fill, and is usually twice the quality of a semi-auto in the same price range. The lower rate of fire forces you to acquire skills faster, as well as keeping ammunition costs down.

Don’t play paintball in any random place. Go to a proper field, that has proper insurance. A good rule-of-thumb test for whether a field is safe to play on (this isn’t absolute, but makes a pretty good quick check data point) is whether they will allow anyone in who DOESN’T have and use a barrel cover. If they don’t require a barrel cover, or even a barrel plug, get out FAST.

Find a field in your area, and find out what hours they are open. Many fields are only really open to walk-on players on the weekends, reserving week days for private parties. Typically you’ll pay what is called a field fee to be allowed in; This fee pays for various things around the field. Many fields require you to use paint bought from the field, so don’t rush out and buy yourself a case of paint until you find out. Almost any field worth playing on has the ability to refill gas tanks (lacking the capability is another data point that tells you to get out NOW). Some fields will have vending machines or a snack bar, a pro shop, a repair tech, etc.

You don’t need fancy camouflage gear, but a long-sleeved shirt, long trousers and boots with ankle-support (Army surplus combat boots are excellent) are strongly advised. One good idea is a coverall or surplus BDU, a size or two too large for you, so you can just take off the dirt and paint splatter at the end of the day and go home clean.

Paintball is safer, assuming you obey all the safety rules, than golf is. But it costs about the same as golf overall to play it, though the exact cost breakdowns are different.

Winning the game in paintball can be easy once you know the effective strategies. This type of game can be exciting and thrilling. How to win the game is your priority. That is why the first the first thing in your mind to play paintball games is to create a winning strategy.

Remember that whether you are just a beginner or a pro, you should still consider these paintball tips to have a “sure hit” win against your opponents. Here it is my friend. Read on.

Strategy 1 – Plan with your team

Tactical planning with your team is very important. Don’t just rely on your own skills just because you know how to play paintball games. One of the paint ball tips: camaraderie. Remember this idea for the team to win.

It is also a good idea to listen to your captain. If in case you are the captain, you can also consider the suggestions of your member. Keep in mind that the game is like a basketball wherein there is team unity.

A part of your effective plan is to carefully study the terrain you are going to play with. In this way, you are able to know where to hide and determine your vantage point. Remember that your main goal here is to beat the opposing team so give your best shot.

Strategy 2 – Gear up!

Don’t forget to gear up to play paintball games. This means that you need a paintball gun, paintballs (include an extra cartridge), safety gears (body armor, knee pads, elbow pads and head mask). These things are important before playing the game.

Also, practice safety measures so as not to hurt yourself, your team mates and your opponents as well. Remember that the game is a kind of extreme sport since it requires agility and mind tactics too.

Strategy 3 – Layout the rules

Another paintball tips is to layout the rule of the game first. Rules in the game are very important to know the boundaries, time limit and the “no-no’s” in playing the gun sport. This will only mean that everyone should cooperate to avoid problems and penalties once the game starts.

Each team should also have a distinct uniform to avoid gunning down your team mates. Field referees should also be a part of the game to strictly implement the rules and determine who the winning team is.

Strategy 4 – Aim!

Once the game starts, be on the lookout and regularly check your back. This includes covering your team mate. Keep a steady aim in shooting your opponent and focus on the game.

Don’t be nervous! Your skills are important since you are also a part of the game. Although it is just a friendly game, your morale must be high to play paintball games.

These are the effective strategies you can apply to win the game of paintball. Beat all your opponents and carry the flag! Remember, not to get “hot headed” in this kind of game since it is a friendly sport.

Shooting one another has always been in the minds of boys. Nevertheless, these desires for shooting each other have not reached the point of wanting to kill each other. This is the same reason why first person shooting games are popular with men. In spite of that, there are still those who wish to feel the adrenaline pumping in their veins as they shoot others try their hands at paintball.

Paintball is a game you along with other teammates as you try to shoot the members of another team with capsules full of paint in order to mark players of the opposing team. The paint will “kill” the people who have been hit, making the team with most players standing the winner. To play this game with ease, you will need to find paintball shops that sell good gear.

You may need to scout around different paintball shops to find what will suit you best, though they usually carry the same gear at varying prices. Look for paintball guns that you like and will use for a long time. Air systems that are attached to guns come with either Nitrogen or CO2 systems. Goggles should be worn at all times so that you can protect your eyes from paint balls, and good armor is also essential so that bruises will be prevented. Nevertheless, paint balls are also quite necessary as part of your paintball gear.

There are many paintball shops online and offline. The advantage of online shops is that you can get the store to deliver your order right at your doorstep. The disadvantage, however, is that you need to put your trust to the online store to deliver your goods in a good condition. The advantage of offline stores, or retail stores, is that you can first check the item for errors and damage before actually buying it. You can also ask the store inquiries about the sport itself.

Whether online or offline, paintball shops are a good place to start your paintball adventures. Be sure to ask for the top gear that your money can buy because you need to keep in mind that these are investments and not just mere toys.

A group of friends head out to an open field, paintball gear and guns in hand. Of all of these guys, there is one who stands out from the crowd. He is the guy who does not have nearly half of the paintball gear that the others are wearing. So, men being what they are, he is the guy who ends up getting shot first and also the one who realizes just how important paintball gear can be fairly quickly.

From the top of your head to your feet, there is some very important paintball gear that you really do need. One of the most essential pieces of the gear that you can use whether you buy it, rent it or borrow it, is a helmet, preferably one with a face protecting shield. If you are really serious about your paintball play, opt for a full head and face protecting helmet. For a secondary sense of protection in this area, you can use a throat protector, although this may not be entirely necessary.

Other gear that you should consider is a chest protector and protective gear for your arms and legs. If you have ever taken a close in shot to your shins, you will quickly realize exactly why you need this gear. Those paint balls sting, especially if you are really near to one another.

If you wear no other type of paintball gear, at least wear a pair of goggles that are safety approved for use in paintball and similar sports so that you can protect your eyes. It does not take a lot of impact to permanently blind you. You can put your eyes at further risk by using the wrong type of safety protection, so make sure that you are reading the limits on the eyewear you are choosing for this purpose.

If you go to a commercial site for paintball fun, you will be required to wear certain paintball gear. That gear might be available for rental from this place; however, it may not fit you well enough to be effective or comfortable. You can buy full sets of paintball guns and gear from yard sales or on auction sites for fairly cheap, making sure that you are getting all of the items that you truly need for your own safety and enjoyment of the sport.

Follow guidelines for the paintball guns and never shoot at one another from extremely close distances. No matter what paintball gear you have, none of it will matter if you are not playing safely.

There are a growing number of MilSim paintball scenario games being produced each year. Paintball players that participate in these games want to be equipped with the right tactical support equipment on the field. Having solid tactical gear gives players an advantage that can mean the difference between being bathed in glory on the field of battle or wallowing in the stench of defeat. Two pieces of tactical support equipment paintball players shouldn’t be without are hydration packs and combat boots.

Dehydration is one of the most common reasons why players fall out on the field. Canteens and water bottles are not practical on the field since players have to remove their masks to take a drink. Hydration packs have a flexible straw that can be inserted under the mask to allow players to safely drink on the field. Players that stay hydrated on the field will perform better, get more trigger trim and are less likely to succumb to heat exhaustion.

Since most MilSim games are played in heavily wood areas, combat boots are another “must have” on the field. They protect feet against brambles, ankle twists and stubbed toes. They also provide superior traction for play in slippery, muddy areas. Some styles can even provide minimal protection against snake bites.

Though this list of needed tactical gear is far from inclusive, those just beginning to play MilSim scenario games should definitely invest in these two items. Beginning MilSim paintball players might also consider adding knee and elbow pads, ghillie suits or other styles of camouflage outwear and various types of lighting for night play into their tactical gear kits.

Sniper paintball gear is very important for those who wish to minimize their chances of injury. Although the bullets shot in paintball games are not lethal and would not cause any life-threatening injuries, they still hurt. Just ask anyone who has played a casual game of paint ball and they can tell you that it stings when you get shot.

Sniper paintball gear is a bit different from traditional safety gear. There are a lot of variables to take into account when a sniper buys his gear. The differences begin with a sniper’s weapon. The sniper’s gun is the most paramount item in his gear. It can play a major role in how the game will play out and which team will win. In most cases, the team with the best sniper will win, so snipers need to be outfitted with top of the line rifles with long range accuracy.

If your team wants to put a sniper on the field, you need to provide that player with appropriate sniper paintball gear. Make sure that the sniper is equipped with everything needed to take out the other team quickly and effectively.

Snipers specialize in using secrecy and special tactics to win a paintball war. In order to stay concealed from other players, most snipers shoot from sneaky hiding places. Snipers can hide in trees or over the top of a nearby hill. Snipers can’t successfully play the game if the team doesn’t provide them with good sniper paintball gear. For example, a sniper needs to be able to shoot from a long range distance, so a traditional paintball rifle won’t work. Teams should provide their sniper with a powerful weapon and protective gear.

The job of the sniper is to eliminate high-priority targets as well as keeping the enemy team as off-balance as they possibly can, with the sub mission of providing much needed cover to teammates. Because the sniper plays such an important role, they are a major target. These players need lots of protective sniper paintball gear to prevent injury.

Sniper paintball gear comes in many different styles, and there are many manufacturers that carry gear especially for snipers. Some of the entry level companies, such as a Tippman, make some of the best gear that is available for snipers. Sniper paintball gear can make the difference between a win and a loss, so choose your team’s gear carefully.

With higher level guns, certain repairs will become necessary. All paintball guns are bound to break at some point or another, but the more expensive paintball gear will require higher end repairs. You could learn to repair these on your own, but there are many high end paintball guns built in such a way that you will need an expert to repair them.

For the most part, a beginner will simply need to purchase low end equipment to help determine whether or not they actually LIKE the game. Over time the individual may choose to buy newer equipment, and the old equipment may be passed on to friends or new players. The moral here however is that you should not over-extend yourself, and you should of course purchase a weapon based on the types of games you will be playing. If you are playing in the woods, then having a comfortable weapon is more important than the size of the weapon. In addition to that it may help to own paintball guns that have the appearance of actual weapons. You have to understand that real-world weapons are designed a certain way for a reason, and the reason is usability.

Many people will choose a lightweight weapon, but oftentimes these are fragile, and the lack of weight can make it extremely difficult to aim. The paintball gear and equipment you choose will ultimately depend on the amount you are willing to invest as well as how often you will be playing. If you are only planning to play once per year, then you might choose something a bit cheaper, but you will also need to make sure it is fully upgradeable. While most battlefields will place limits on weapon speed, there are upgrades for accuracy and functionality for all weapons that will support it. Making sure that you choose a weapon with upgrade capabilities will ensure that you are ready the moment you decide to get back into the game.

One thing you really need to avoid is walking into the nearest department store and purchasing their weapons right off of the shelf. Oftentimes these are sub-par weapons that should be sold at a toy store, and you would in fact have better luck shopping at a sporting goods store. Another thing to remember is that you will often get exactly what you pay for, meaning if you pay $10 for a gun off the shelf, you will receive $10 worth of performance in exchange. On another note, you can save quite a bit of money by purchasing the first of your paintball guns in a used condition rather than brand new. There are many professionals out there who would never consider purchasing a used rifle or even pistol, but if you can put up with the potential signs of wear and even the repair work that might be required, then you may find that the concept of a used paintball gun is actually quite appealing!

When players are purchasing gear for paintball, the most important piece of equipment to purchase is the gun.

When players are purchasing gear for paintball, the most important piece of equipment to purchase is the gun. Protective gear is important as well, but the gun can often be the difference between victory and defeat during a paintball game. The following is a guide to selecting a paintball gun.

The most important factor when it comes to buying a paintball gun is reliability. In the middle of a heated contest, there is nothing worse than the gun jamming. This is a common cause of a team suffering defeat.

Players want to buy a gun that will perform reliably under pressure without jamming, but they want to achieve this reliability with a cheap paintball gun. Cheap is a word that is relative to the individual, but do not expect to pay less than $100 and get a brand new reliable weapon. A cheap paintball gun that is reliable will be in the neighborhood of $150 to 200. Of course, it is possible to spend several hundred dollars on the weapon, but that is a matter of personal preference and is useful for those that play frequently and competitively.

When determining the reliability of a gun, it is a good idea to look at as many sources of information as possible. Read reviews both in magazines and online. Search online forums for other players’ comments and experiences with the weapon. Also, talk to other players at the local paintball venues to see what they are using, and what is available cheaply that will perform well.

It is important to select the correct kind of gun. This decision will be influenced on what position and style of play the gun is needed for. Players that are highly aggressive and leading charges into enemy territory will want to purchase guns that have a great rate of fire. This is accomplished by selecting guns that utilize an electronic trigger. Players that hang back and are more of a sniper, on the other hand, will want to select guns that are known for their accuracy.

Another important aspect to think about when buying guns is what kind of air supply they use. There are two main types of air that guns will use: CO2 or HPA. CO2 is the most common, mainly due to its cheapness. HPA gives more shots per tank volume than CO2, and it is also more consistent. This is due to the fact that HPA will not be negatively affected by cold weather, unlike CO2. For those in warmer climates, this is not a factor.

To be a good paintball sniper you need certain personality traits, the right physical skills, specialized equipment (including a paintball sniper gun), and the proper know-how.

Personality Traits

A successful sniper has mastered certain personality traits, including patience, self-confidence, and independence. Patience is crucial because as a sniper, you must wait for the best shot to present itself to you. Snipers that take the first shot that comes their way usually expose their location and open themselves to attack.

Self-confidence is another extremely important characteristic for a paintball sniper. The right shot only rarely comes along, and if you don’t have the confidence to take the shot in the split-second moment that it appears, you probably won’t make for a very good sniper. Second-guessing oneself typically hinders a paintball sniper.

A great sniper also demonstrates independence. The master sniper is a loner, cutting himself off from the fun and camaraderie of team play for the chance to help his teammates win. It’s a noble but lonely role, and if you aren’t comfortable with being by yourself you may find that you can’t resist the urge to get onto the field and be a more active part of the team.

Physical Skills

Of course, any good sniper must be a good shot. Practice long-distance shooting as much as you can, as this skill is the paintball sniper’s main advantage. You will also need to be able to accurately follow a target with your gun and fire as soon as the target stops.

Aside from shooting ability, there are a number of other physical skills that can assist you as a paintball sniper. The ability to stay alert in a crouched or sitting position for a long period of time is essential. Flexibility is key, so do some flexibility exercises, such as basic stretching or yoga, before each game.

Equipment

The right equipment is very important for a sniper. If you don’t have the right marker, scope, or camouflage outfit, you might as well not even bother. The industry standard for markers restricts the speed of paintballs exiting the barrel at 300 feet per second, which many guns are quite similar to each other. However, you can buy marker enhancement equipment such as tactical red dot sights and barrel mounts. These accessories turn your ordinary paintball marker into a true paintball sniper rifle–a sniper’s dream weapon.

Scopes are probably the best accessory you can get for your paintball sniper gun. A high-powered magnification scope or eyepiece will allow you to take down targets at greater distances, but be careful– having your face buried in a scope makes you vulnerable to closer sneak attacks.

Clothing is another important factor to consider in choosing paintball gear. Wearing camouflage head wraps, coveralls or jackets helps you go unseen, an invaluable asset for any sniper.

Remember, a lot of responsibility comes with the role of sniper. Be patient, train properly, and arm yourself with the right paintball gear and you will do just fine.

Rap4 – This brand is the epitome of realism. If you ever have had the fortune of seeing their gear in real life, then you know what I am talking about. In fact, at the last event I went to my buddies and I just couldn’t keep out of their tent. Their markers feel almost more real than the real deal, and their accessories are pretty cool. However, what isn’t cool is the price tags that come with their products. See, somehow they know they can get away charging so much, because some fool will always be willing to pay for it, and heck, if you sell less at a higher price, you don’t have to worry too much about manufacturing crap. The funny thing is, there’s loads of other great cheap yet great quality vests out there, so I really recommend you at all cost, stay away from the money pit Rap4 has become.

GXG – At the last event I was at, I didn’t pay much attention to Gen X Global. I hadn’t heard of them, so I figured they didnt offer anything special. However, when I decided my harness wasn’t big enough, and I needed a new one, suddenly their packs came onto my radar. After browsing around I saw that vests and harnesses came with ridiculous price tags. I’m sorry, but I’m just not ready, nor will I ever be ready to pay over 100 bucks for a vest or over 50 for a harness, it just isn’t going to happen. So, after looking around, too much of my surprise I found GXG apparel. Their apparel came with a darn decent price tag, and better yet, seemed pretty durable. I ended up putting $15 bucks down on a GXG harness… yes, $15 bucks, and it held 7 pods! If I hadn’t of bought an Invert Mini earlier that week, I would have definitely would have gotten one of their vests, but sadly, I just didn’t have the cash.
