Paintball is a competitive sport in which two or more players use compressed air guns called markers to shoot paintballs at their opponents, The first person left standing without being hit wins. Paintball is at its all time highest popularity. It is estimated that over ten million people play each year and that is just in the United States alone.
Paintball is a more intense version of the childhood game tag. Except you get hit with paintballs traveling at an excessive rate of speed instead of the old slap on the back to declare Tag, you’re it!
The paintballs are marble sized color balls; they are filled with colored gelatin so when the ball hits a player it explodes to show a color. The game can either be played indoors or outdoors. There are centers that specialize in housing the games and the more extreme players go into wooded areas and play a hunting game with paintballs. The rules for paintball are in a wide range or variation. The most important part is that the players are safe.
The most basic rules of the game are that if you are hit you are out of the game. You must have paint on yourself to show that you have been hit. There are some instances that a paintball may bounce off an object and end up hitting you. If you are not sure how the paintball hit you check with a referee and they will determine if you are out or not. If the paint splatter is bigger than a dime then the general rule is that a player is out.
You may also be eliminated from the game if you shoot upon a referee or a player that is leaving the field. You call your self out by yelling I am out or I’m hit. You can also surrender at any point in the game. You may yell out surrender or mercy before leaving the game and the other players must wait for you to exit the field.
